Russell Johnson was born Russell David Johnson to his father, Russell Kennedy Johnson, and his mother, Marion Wenonah Smink Johnson. He was born and brought up in Ashley of Pennsylvania, USA.
He grew up with six siblings whose names are Kenneth W. Johnson, David Reed Johnson, Lois Marion Johnson, Lorraine Johnson Crosby, Marion Joan Johnson Reeves, and Paul Wesley Johnson.
Russell went to a private boarding school and later graduated from Girard College located in Philadelphia which was specifically built for students without father.
Professional Career
Russell Johnson joined the United States Army Air Forces right after his high school graduation. He took the responsibility of bombardier as a second lieutenant during World War II.
He had been rewarded with many awards for his bravery. Russell got discharged as a first lieutenant in 1945.
His passion for acting drove him towards television shows. He received overwhelming recognition for his role as a professor in the TV show called “Gilligan’s Island”. He had also appeared on Black Saddle.
Some of the films that he was a part of are ‘Column South’, ‘Tumbleweed’, and ‘Ride Clear of Diablo’ amongst many others. Russell was a phenomenal actor and contributed so much of his talent to Hollywood.
Marriage, Spouse, and Children
Russell Johnson’s first marriage was with Edith Cahoon in 1943. They got divorced after a few years in 1948. Just a year later, he married Kay Cousins. Kay and Russell had first met in Actor’s Lab.
They welcomed a daughter named Kim and a son named David together. Unfortunately, Kim died in 1980 in California. Two years later, Russell re-married Constance Connie Dane and moved to Washington with her.
In 1994, Russell’s son David died of AIDS and since then, Russell was actively involved in raising AIDS charities.
